Mahogany Deck and Bluestone Patio Design
I design decks where patios can't go. Although masonry stairs could have been used here, it would have been cost prohibitive and a deck was a better design choice. I designed the deck to be both a transition to the lower patio and also provide enough space for a grill and small table. The deck features mahogany decking and a brazilian oak border while the railings are PVC.
The lower bluestone patio features a stone bench, great for family photos and function seating. Both the bench and deck stairs have low voltage lighting to lowly illuminate the space in the night. I imported large boulders which served as accents in the surrounding planting beds and also were used to anchor the ends of the bench. The boulders help influence the natural and organic landscape design that surrounds the rest of the house.
